🔧 Rogue - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old wiper blade assemblies from the wiper arms and snap on new ones. Fresh blades restore clear visibility and help prevent windshield scratching from worn rubber.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

Assumption: Your Rogue uses a common J-hook style front wiper arm.

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Don’t let the bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Support each wiper arm with one hand while swapping blades.
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge; it can pinch.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 17" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Rogue on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a safety cushion.
  • If the blades sit very low under the hood line, you can put the wipers into a “service position” so they’re easier to lift. (Many Nissans support this.)

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Move the wipers to a service position (if needed)

  • Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
  • If your wiper arms are hard to lift, try this common Nissan method: turn ignition ON, then OFF, then immediately move the wiper stalk to MIST and hold briefly until the wipers rise.
  • If your Rogue doesn’t respond, skip this step and continue—many blades can still be replaced with the wipers in the parked position.

Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Use your hand to gently lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Place the microfiber towel under the arm area as added protection.
  • Tip: Hold the arm the whole time.

Step 3: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm (forms an “L” shape).
  • Find the small release tab/clip where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Press the tab with your fingers (gloves on) and slide the blade down toward the open end of the hook.
  • Once it clears the hook, lift the blade off.
  • Definition: A J-hook is a hook-shaped end on the wiper arm that the blade slides onto and locks in.

Step 4: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Remove the new 26" blade from its packaging.
  • If the blade includes multiple adapters, choose the one labeled for J-hook and snap it onto the blade if it isn’t preinstalled.
  • Slide the new blade onto the hook until you hear/feel a click.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked.

Step 5: Lower the driver-side wiper arm

  • Carefully lower the arm back onto the windshield.
  • Remove and reposition the microfiber towel as needed.

Step 6: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 2–5 for the passenger-side 17" blade.
  • Use the step stool if you need safer reach—don’t lean on the glass.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn ignition ON and run the front washers/wipers briefly to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
  • Check that both blades park normally and don’t hit the hood trim.
  • If you used service position, cycle the ignition and run the wipers once to return them to normal park.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $40-$90 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $25-$60 (parts only)

You Save: $15-$30 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.4 hours.
