Step-by-step J-hook removal/install guide with correct blade sizes, tools list, and safety tips

🔧 Pathfinder - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear vision in rain and reduces streaking and chatter. On your Pathfinder, the blades attach to the wiper arms with a common “J-hook” style connection, so this is a quick DIY job.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Support the wiper arm—don’t let it snap onto the glass.
- 🛑 Work with ignition OFF and wipers OFF.
- 🛑 Put a towel on the windshield where the arms rest to prevent cracks if an arm drops.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arms
- Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield by hand.
- Use a clean microfiber towel to protect the glass where the arm could fall.
Step 2: Remove the old driver-side blade (J-hook release)
- Rotate the blade so it sits roughly perpendicular (90°) to the wiper arm.
- Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the arm (this tab prevents it from sliding off).
- Press the tab with your thumb; if it’s tight, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver. (A flathead screwdriver is a small, straight-tip pry/turn tool.)
- Slide the blade down and out of the “J” hook, then remove it from the arm.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Hook the new blade’s connector into the wiper arm’s J-hook.
- Pull/slide it into place until you hear/feel a click.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked.
Step 4: Repeat on the passenger-side blade
- Lift the passenger wiper arm by hand.
- Remove the old blade using the same tab-and-slide method.
- Install the new passenger blade and confirm it clicks/locks.
Step 5: Lower the arms carefully
- Lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly by hand.
- Remove the clean microfiber towel from the glass.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and run the front washers briefly to wet the glass.
- Test wipers on low speed, then high speed. Check for streaks, skipping, or looseness.
- If a blade chatters, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel.
- Don’t run new blades on dry glass.
