🔧 Outlander - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and helps prevent scratching the windshield. On your Outlander, this is a quick job: lift the wiper arms, release the blade’s lock, and slide the new blades on until they click.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge—wiper arms can snap back hard.
  • ⚠️ Put a folded towel on the windshield under the arm in case it drops.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before lifting wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🅿️ Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Wipe the windshield edge near the wipers using a microfiber towel.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the windshield below each wiper arm to protect the glass.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arms

  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Repeat for the passenger-side arm.

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade (J-hook style)

  • Rotate the blade so it sits at a right angle to the wiper arm.
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the arm (the connector).
  • Press the tab with a small flathead screwdriver if it’s tight (go gentle to avoid cracking plastic).
  • Slide the blade down and off the hook. If it’s stuck, wiggle it while pulling; use needle-nose pliers lightly if needed.
  • Tip: Don’t squeeze the hook metal hard.

Step 3: Install the new wiper blade

  • Confirm the new blade lengths match: 26" driver, 18" passenger.
  • Slide the new blade connector onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the arms carefully

  • Lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly so it doesn’t slap the glass.
  • Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.

✅ After Repair

  • 🚿 Turn the ignition ON and run the washers for 2–3 wipes to confirm smooth, streak-free operation.
  • Check that both blades park at the bottom correctly and don’t chatter.
  • If a blade streaks, clean the glass and rubber edge with a damp microfiber towel.
