🔧 Lancer - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and prevents streaking or scratching from worn rubber. This job is quick and requires no special skills—just be careful not to let the wiper arm snap back onto the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge area; it can pinch.
  • ⚠️ Never let the wiper arm snap onto the windshield—place a towel on the glass if you’re worried.
  • ⚠️ Ignition OFF; do not run the wipers while blades are removed.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Clean towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Lift each wiper arm carefully and place a clean towel on the windshield under the arm as a cushion.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its own.
  • Lay a clean towel on the glass below the arm. Prevents chips if it slips.

Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • Locate the “J-hook” connection (the end of the arm looks like a hooked “J”).
  • Press the small release tab on the blade connector with your thumb (no tools needed).
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade down toward the base of the arm and rotate it off the hook.

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade

  • On the new blade, ensure the correct adapter is installed (most new blades include a J-hook adapter).
  • Slide the new blade onto the J-hook and pull it upward until you hear/feel a click.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Repeat for the passenger-side blade

  • Repeat Steps 1–3 on the passenger side (same J-hook style connection).
  • Make sure you install the correct length blade on each side: 26" driver, 18" passenger.

Step 5: Lower the arms and check alignment

  • Carefully lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield by hand.
  • Remove the clean towel.
  • Visually confirm each blade sits flat against the glass.

âś… After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid (or use a wet windshield) and run the wipers to confirm smooth, quiet operation.
  • If you see skipping/chatter, re-check that each blade is fully clicked onto the J-hook.
  • Clean the glass for best results.
