🔧 RX350 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll put the front wiper arms into a safe “service” position, remove the old blades, and click on new ones. This matters because lifting the arms in the wrong position can let the wiper arm hit the hood edge and chip paint or crack the windshield.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition OFF before handling the wiper arms.
  • Do not let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack glass. Hold the arm any time the blade is removed.
  • Place a towel on the lower windshield/cowl area for extra protection.
  • If the wiper arm touches the hood while lifting, stop and use service position.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves
  • Microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key fob from the vehicle area.
  • Lay a microfiber towel at the bottom edge of the windshield as a safety buffer.
  • Assumption: Your RX350 uses the common Toyota/Lexus “wiper service position” sequence; if it doesn’t move, use the alternate method in Step 1.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in service position

  • Option A (typical Lexus/Toyota): With the vehicle OFF, press the Start/Stop button to turn ignition ON (do not start), then press Start/Stop again to turn ignition OFF.
  • Within about 30–45 seconds, move the wiper stalk to the single-wipe “MIST” position and hold it for about 2 seconds.
  • The wipers should move up and stop partway on the windshield (service position).
  • Option B (if Option A doesn’t work): Turn ignition ON, then OFF, then quickly tap the wiper stalk up to MIST twice. Stop when the arms park partway up.

Step 2: Lift the wiper arms safely

  • Put on mechanic gloves and safety glasses.
  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the glass until it stays up on its spring hinge.
  • Repeat for the passenger-side arm.
  • Keep the microfiber towel in place to protect the glass/paint.

Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade (J-hook style)

  • At the center where the blade meets the arm, find the small release tab (a little locking button/clip).
  • Press the tab with your fingers and slide the blade down toward the base of the arm to unhook it.
  • Once it’s free, remove the blade from the arm.
  • Tip: Hold the arm so it can’t snap.

Step 4: Install the new wiper blade

  • Confirm the new blade is the correct length (Driver: 26", Passenger: 18").
  • If the new blade includes adapters, use the one that matches the arm’s hook and clicks firmly into place.
  • Slide the new blade onto the arm hook until you hear/feel a “click.”
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked.

Step 5: Lower the arms and exit service position

  • Carefully lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.
  • Turn ignition ON and run the wipers once to return them to the normal parked position.

âś… After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and run wipers on low speed to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
  • If you see streaking, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and re-check that each blade is fully clicked in.
  • Make sure both arms park evenly at the bottom of the windshield.
