How to Replace Front Windshield Wiper Blades on a 2016 Lexus IS200t
Step-by-step service position instructions, required tools/parts, and tips to prevent windshield damage

🔧 IS - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll move the wipers into a safe “service position,” remove the old blades, and snap on the new ones. Doing this the right way prevents the wiper arm from springing back and cracking the windshield.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Never let the bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ Work with the car on level ground and the transmission in Park.
- ⚠️ If the wipers aren’t in service position, the hood-edge can interfere—use service position first.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Clean shop towel
- Small flat trim tool
🔩 Required Parts

- Front windshield wiper blades - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park your IS on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Put a clean shop towel on the lower windshield area as a cushion while you work.
- Set the wipers to service position: turn ignition ON, then OFF, then within about 45 seconds move the wiper stalk to MIST (up) and hold for about 2 seconds until the wipers lift up and stop.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arms safely
- Use your hands to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Slide a clean shop towel under the arm area as extra protection.
- Hold the arm at all times.
Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade (common Lexus/Toyota “pinch-tab” style)
- Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the arm (an “L” shape) using your hands.
- Find the small locking tabs where the blade meets the arm.
- Pinch the tabs with your fingers; if they’re stiff, use a small flat trim tool to gently help press the tab.
- While the tab is pressed, slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it, then pull it off.
Step 3: Alternate removal method (J-hook arm style, if equipped)
- Rotate the blade perpendicular to the arm using your hands.
- Press the release button/clip on the blade with your fingers; if needed, use a small flat trim tool gently.
- Slide the blade down toward the hood to release it from the hook, then lift it off the hook.
Step 4: Install the new wiper blade
- Compare the new blade to the old one in length and connector shape using your hands.
- Slide the new blade onto the arm connector until it clicks/locks in place using your hands.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked (it should not slide off).
Step 5: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger-side wiper using your hands and the small flat trim tool only if needed.
Step 6: Return wipers from service position
- Lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield carefully using your hands.
- Turn ignition ON and briefly operate the wipers once using the stalk to let them park normally.
âś… After Repair
- Spray washer fluid and run the wipers on LOW to confirm smooth wiping and no skipping.
- Check both blades for secure attachment (no lifting at the ends).
- If you see streaks, clean the windshield edge-to-edge and wipe the rubber with a damp towel.
