šŸ”§ Soul - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snapping on new blades. Fresh blades improve visibility and reduce streaking and chatter, especially in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.4 hours

Assumption: Most Souls use Driver 26" and Passenger 16" blades—verify the size printed on your old blades or on the package guide at purchase.

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition off and remove the key before lifting the wiper arms.
  • āš ļø Do not let a wiper arm snap onto the glass—place a towel on the windshield to protect it.
  • āš ļø Keep fingers clear of the wiper arm hinge; it’s spring-loaded.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Work gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the lower windshield where the wiper arms could touch.
  • Inspect the new blades for the correct adapter. (An adapter is the small clip that matches your wiper arm style.)

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use work gloves and carefully lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Keep the microfiber towel on the glass as a cushion.

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade

  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular (90°) to the wiper arm using your hands.
  • Find the small locking tab/clip where the blade meets the arm.
  • Press the tab with your fingers; if it’s tight, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver.
  • Slide the blade down and off the hook at the end of the arm.
  • Tip: Cover the arm with your hand.

Step 3: Install the new wiper blade

  • Hold the new blade and confirm the correct adapter is installed (most are ā€œJ-hookā€ style on the Soul).
  • Slide the wiper arm’s hook into the new blade’s connector by hand until it seats fully.
  • Pull gently on the blade to confirm it is locked in place.
  • If your blade includes a protective strip, remove it by hand before testing.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Use your hand to guide the arm back to the windshield (don’t let it snap down).
  • Remove the microfiber towel after the arm is down.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger-side blade.
  • Use the small flathead screwdriver only if the release tab is stubborn.

āœ… After Repair

  • Clean the windshield with washer fluid.
  • Start the car and test the wipers on LOW, then HIGH.
  • Verify both blades park correctly and don’t streak or skip.
  • If there’s chatter, wipe the blade rubber with a damp towel and retest.
