🔧 Renegade - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing your front wiper blades restores clear visibility and prevents windshield streaking and chatter. On your Renegade, the easiest way is to put the wipers into “service position” so the arms lift up safely without hitting the hood.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Turn ignition OFF before touching wiper arms.
- 🛑 Do not let the wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
- 🛑 Keep fingers clear of the hinge area; it can pinch.
- 🛑 Battery disconnect is not required.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Small flathead screwdriver
- Tape measure
- Microfiber towel
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2
Assumption: Many Renegade trims use 26" driver / 16" passenger. Verify the length printed on your old blades or measure with a tape measure before installing.
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground and shift to P.
- 🧼 Place a microfiber towel on the lower windshield as a cushion.
- 🕹️ Put wipers in service position: turn ignition to OFF, then within about 10 seconds move the wiper stalk up once (mist) and release. The wipers should “park” higher so you can lift the arms.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely
- Use your hand to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Keep the microfiber towel on the glass underneath. It helps prevent chips.
Step 2: Remove the old blade from the arm
- Most Renegade wipers use a J-hook arm (the end of the arm looks like a “J”).
- Rotate the blade so it sits roughly perpendicular to the arm (makes the release easier).
- Find the small release tab/clip where the blade connects to the hook.
- If the tab is stiff, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver while supporting the blade with your other hand.
- Slide the blade down and off the hook.
Step 3: Install the new blade (match the correct side)
- Use a tape measure to confirm the longer blade is for the driver side and the shorter blade is for the passenger side.
- Remove any shipping cover from the rubber wiping edge by hand.
- Slide the new blade’s connector onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
- Pull gently on the blade to confirm it is fully latched.
Step 4: Lower the arm carefully
- Guide the arm down by hand until the blade rests on the windshield.
- Do not drop it—control it the whole way.
Step 5: Exit service position
- Turn ignition to ON and briefly operate the wipers using the stalk to let them return to normal park.
âś… After Repair
- 🧴 Clean the windshield with washer fluid and a microfiber towel.
- 🚿 Test wipers on low speed and with washer spray. Confirm no streaks and no blade “lifting” at speed.
- 🔍 If there’s chatter, re-check that each blade is fully clicked onto the hook.
