🔧 Grand Cherokee - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap new blades on. On your Grand Cherokee, it’s easiest if you first move the wipers into a “service position” so you can lift the arms safely without hitting the hood.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF before touching the wipers.
  • ⚠️ Don’t let a wiper arm snap onto the glass—use a towel to protect the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge area when lowering the arm.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 21" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • 🅿️ Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Clean heavy dirt off the windshield so it doesn’t scratch.
  • Have your microfiber towel ready to lay on the glass under the wiper arm.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in “service position”

  • Use your key/start button to turn ignition to ON, then turn ignition OFF.
  • Within about 10 seconds, use the wiper stalk to select a single wipe (the “mist” function).
  • The wipers should move upward and stop where you can lift the arms more easily.
  • If this doesn’t work, skip to Step 2.

Step 2: Protect the windshield

  • Lay a microfiber towel on the windshield directly under the wiper blade area.
  • This protects the glass if the arm springs down accidentally.

Step 3: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.

Step 4: Remove the old driver-side wiper blade

  • At the connection point, find the small release tab on the blade adapter.
  • Press the tab with your thumb; if it’s tight, gently help it with a small flat-blade screwdriver. (This is a small straight-tip screwdriver.)
  • Slide the blade down and off the end of the wiper arm hook.

Step 5: Install the new driver-side wiper blade

  • Remove the new blade from packaging and confirm it matches the old length.
  • Hook the new blade’s adapter onto the arm and slide it into place until it clicks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked.

Step 6: Lower the driver-side arm carefully

  • Hold the arm firmly and guide it down onto the windshield—don’t let it drop.
  • Keep the microfiber towel in place until the arm is fully down.

Step 7: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Use the same process with the passenger arm: lift, press the release, slide old blade off, click new blade on.
  • Use the small flat-blade screwdriver only if the release tab is stubborn.

Step 8: Exit service position and test

  • Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.
  • Turn ignition ON and use the wiper stalk to run the wipers and washer for a few sweeps.
  • Confirm no chatter, skipping, or loose blade ends.

âś… After Repair

  • Run washer fluid and wipe for 10–15 seconds to “wet-in” the new rubber.
  • If you see streaking, clean the glass with washer fluid and a towel, then retest.
  • Recheck that both blades are fully clicked into the arm.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost
