How to Replace Front Windshield Wiper Blades on a 2016 Jeep Cherokee
Step-by-step service position instructions, blade sizes, tools, parts, and safety tips

🔧 Cherokee - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear vision in rain and reduces windshield streaking. On your Cherokee, it’s easiest if you put the wiper arms into “service position” so the hood edge doesn’t get in your way.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
Assumption: Front blade sizes are Driver 26", Passenger 18".
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF before handling wiper arms so they don’t move unexpectedly.
- ⚠️ Don’t let the wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ If you lift an arm up, place a towel on the windshield for protection.
- Battery disconnect is not required.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Clean microfiber towel
- Small flathead screwdriver
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2
- Windshield washer fluid - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the ignition to ON, then turn it OFF.
- Within 10 seconds, move the wiper stalk up one click (mist) to place the wipers in service position. Service position lifts blades for access.
- Lay a clean microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a safety cushion.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Use nitrile gloves to grip the wiper arm and carefully lift it away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Keep the clean microfiber towel on the glass in case the arm slips. Don’t over-bend the arm.
Step 2: Release the old blade from the arm
- Locate the small locking tab where the blade connects to the arm.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently press the locking tab if it’s tight. Press gently—plastic breaks easily.
- Slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it, then remove it.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Use safety glasses and check the new blade includes the correct adapter (the included clip that matches your arm).
- Slide the new blade onto the arm connection until you hear/feel a “click.”
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 4: Repeat for the passenger-side blade
- Use nitrile gloves to lift the passenger wiper arm.
- Use the small flathead screwdriver only if needed to press the locking tab.
- Remove the old blade and click the new blade into place the same way.
Step 5: Return wipers from service position
- Gently lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield.
- Turn the ignition to ON and briefly run the wipers once to return them to the normal parked position.
âś… After Repair
- Top off windshield washer fluid and spray the windshield.
- Run the wipers on low speed and confirm no streaking, chatter, or missed spots.
- If a blade smears, wipe the rubber edge with the clean microfiber towel and try again.
