🔧 QX60 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old front wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap new blades in place. On your QX60, it’s best to put the wipers into a “service position” so the arms can lift safely without hitting the hood.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of hinges and spring-loaded wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Never let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Use a towel to protect the windshield while swapping blades.
  • ⚠️ Ignition will be cycled; keep the vehicle in Park.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Painter’s tape
  • Small flathead screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 17" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the engine off.
  • Have the new blades opened and ready (so the wiper arm isn’t up long).
  • Put a microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield as protection.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Move the wipers to “service position”

  • Turn ignition ON (do not start), then turn ignition OFF.
  • Within about 15 seconds, use the wiper stalk and push to MIST (upward momentary position) twice.
  • The wipers should move up and stop where you can lift them.
  • If they don’t move, use Step 1A.

Step 1A: If service position doesn’t activate

  • Carefully lift each wiper arm only as far as it naturally goes without forcing it near the hood edge.
  • Use painter’s tape to mark where each blade sits on the glass (helps if an arm gets bumped).

Step 2: Remove the driver-side blade

  • Lift the driver wiper arm away from the glass and keep a microfiber towel under it.
  • At the blade’s connector, find the small locking tab.
  • Press the tab with your fingers (or gently with a small flathead screwdriver) and slide the blade down and off the hook/connector.
  • Slowly lower the bare arm onto the towel (do not let it snap down).

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Confirm you’re using the 26" blade for the driver side.
  • Slide the new blade onto the arm’s hook/connector until it fully seats.
  • Pull gently on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Remove and install the passenger-side blade

  • Repeat the same process on the passenger side using the 17" blade.
  • Use the small flathead screwdriver only if the lock tab is stubborn.
  • Do a gentle tug test to confirm it’s locked.

Step 5: Return wipers to normal park position

  • Lower both arms back onto the windshield.
  • Turn ignition ON.
  • Use the wiper stalk for one wipe, then turn wipers OFF so they park normally.
  • Remove the painter’s tape if you used it.

âś… After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and run the wipers on low speed to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
  • Check that both blades sit flat and don’t “click” or lift at the ends.
  • Clean the glass for best streak-free wiping.
