How to Replace Front Windshield Wiper Blades on a 2016 INFINITI QX50
Step-by-step J-hook blade removal/installation with correct sizes (26" & 17"), tools, and safety tips
🔧 QX50 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old front wiper blade assemblies from the wiper arms and snap on new blades. Fresh blades restore clear vision, reduce streaking, and prevent windshield scratching from worn rubber.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes
Assumption: Your QX50 uses the common J-hook wiper arm connection and front blade sizes Driver: 26", Passenger: 17". If the new blade won’t latch, exchange for the correct connector/length at purchase.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and remove the key before working near the wiper arms.
- ⚠️ Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield. Set a towel on the glass as protection.
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge when folding the wiper arm up; it can pinch.
- Battery disconnect is not required.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park your QX50 on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Place a microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield under each wiper arm.
- Lift one wiper arm at a time to avoid mixing up blade lengths.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Use your hands (gloves recommended) to carefully lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Keep the microfiber towel under the arm in case it slips.
Step 2: Release the old blade from the J-hook
- Hold the blade near the middle with your hand so it doesn’t twist.
- Find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
- Press the tab with your fingers; if it’s stubborn, gently help it with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
- Slide the blade down toward the base of the arm to unhook it from the “J” shape. (A “J-hook” is the common hook-shaped end of the wiper arm.)
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Confirm you’re holding the 26" blade.
- Rotate the new blade so the connector opening lines up with the J-hook.
- Hook it in and slide it upward until you hear/feel a solid click.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked.
Step 4: Lower the driver-side arm safely
- Use your hand to guide the arm back down onto the windshield.
- Do not let it drop.
Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side
- Use the same process for the passenger side with the 17" blade.
- Use the small flat-blade screwdriver only if the release tab is stuck.
✅ After Repair
- Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.
- Turn ignition ON and test the wipers with washer fluid for 2–3 wipes.
- If you see chatter/skipping, clean the glass and blades with a damp towel and re-test. New rubber can be “dry” at first.
- Make sure both blades park in the normal resting position and don’t hit the trim.
