šŸ”§ Fusion - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old front wiper blade assemblies from the wiper arms and click new blades into place. Fresh blades improve visibility and reduce streaking, chatter, and skipping in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Keep fingers clear of the wiper hinge; it can pinch when it snaps down.
  • āš ļø Do not let a bare wiper arm slam onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
  • āš ļø Work with the ignition OFF unless putting wipers in service position.
  • āš ļø If the hood is open, don’t cycle the wipers; they can hit the hood edge.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Painter’s tape
  • Step stool

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • 🧰 Park on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
  • 🧰 Lay a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as extra protection.
  • 🧰 Optional (recommended): put the wipers in ā€œservice positionā€ so the arms are easier to lift.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in service position (if needed)

  • Turn the ignition ON, then turn it OFF.
  • Within a few seconds, move and hold the wiper stalk to the single-wipe (MIST) position for about 2 seconds (the stalk is the lever on the steering column).
  • The wipers should move up and stop where you can lift the arms away from the glass.
  • If they don’t move, continue without service position.

Step 2: Lift and secure the first wiper arm

  • Use your hands to gently lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Use painter’s tape to mark the blade’s parked position on the glass (helps alignment).
  • Keep the microfiber towel under the arm area as a cushion.

Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade

  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s more perpendicular to the arm for access.
  • Find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm (this is the ā€œadapter,ā€ the plastic connector piece).
  • Press the release tab with your thumb and slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it.
  • If it’s tight, wiggle the blade while keeping the tab pressed.

Step 4: Install the new wiper blade

  • Match the new blade to the side you’re working on (driver is longer than passenger).
  • Slide the new blade’s adapter onto the wiper arm hook/connector until it clicks.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 5: Set the arm down safely

  • Use your hand to lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly.
  • Do not let it snap down.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 2–5 for the passenger-side wiper blade.

Step 7: Return wipers to normal park position

  • If you used service position, turn the ignition ON and turn the wipers ON then OFF once to park them normally.
  • Remove the painter’s tape and microfiber towel.

āœ… After Repair

  • 🧪 Spray washer fluid and run the wipers for 10–15 seconds to confirm smooth, streak-free wiping.
  • 🧪 Verify both blades park in the normal low position and don’t hit the hood edge.
  • 🧪 If you see streaks, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel.
