🔧 Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Your XC90 uses push-tab style front wiper blades, so this is a quick DIY job. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and snap the new ones in place. Work one side at a time.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before working on the wipers.
  • Keep fingers clear of the wiper arm. The spring tension can snap it down hard.
  • Protect the windshield with a towel if you lift the arm away from the glass.
  • Do not let the bare wiper arm drop onto the glass.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean towel
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and switch the ignition off.
  • Lift the front wiper arm gently away from the windshield.
  • If your blades are stuck to the glass, free them slowly by hand first.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hand to raise one front wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Place a clean towel on the glass under the arm for protection.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Locate the release tab on the wiper blade connector.
  • Press the tab and slide the blade straight off the arm.
  • If it resists, keep the arm steady and wiggle the blade slightly while holding the release tab.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Align the new blade with the wiper arm connector.
  • Slide it in until it clicks into place.
  • Lightly tug the blade to confirm it is locked.

Step 4: Repeat on the other side

  • Replace the second front wiper blade the same way.
  • Make sure both blades are fully seated and facing the correct direction.

Step 5: Lower the arms carefully

  • Guide each arm back down by hand.
  • Remove the towel only after both arms are safely back on the glass.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the wipers on and check for smooth operation.
  • Confirm both blades clear the glass evenly with no chatter or skipping.
  • If either blade streaks, recheck that it is fully locked in place.
