🔧 RX350 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility and prevents streaking or chattering. On your RX350, the wiper arms sit low, so you’ll likely need to put the wipers into “service position” (maintenance position) so you can lift them safely.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Don’t let a wiper arm snap onto the glass—place a towel on the windshield to prevent cracks.
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge area when lifting the wiper arm (it can pinch).
  • ⚠️ Turn the wipers OFF before starting; never work near moving wiper arms.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Painter’s tape
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 20" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to P.
  • Turn the wipers off and make sure the hood is fully closed.
  • Lay a microfiber towel across the lower windshield/cowl area where the wiper arms could touch.
  • Use painter’s tape to mark where each blade sits on the glass (helps if anything moves).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in service position (so you can lift them)

  • Method A (common Lexus/Toyota method): Turn ignition ON, then turn ignition OFF.
  • Within about 30 seconds, move the wiper stalk to MIST (one quick upward flick) and release, then do it a second time.
  • The wipers should move up and stop partway on the windshield (service position).
  • If it doesn’t work, repeat ON then OFF.

Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Use your hands (wear nitrile gloves) to gently lift the wiper arm away from the glass.
  • Keep the microfiber towel on the windshield as a safety cushion.

Step 3: Remove the old driver-side wiper blade

  • Locate the connection where the blade attaches to the arm (this is the “J-hook” style: a hook-shaped end of the arm).
  • Press the small release tab on the blade with your fingers; if it’s stubborn, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently help press the tab.
  • Slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it, then pull it off.
  • Don’t pry hard—tabs break easily.

Step 4: Install the new driver-side wiper blade

  • Align the new blade’s connector with the arm’s hook.
  • Slide it into place until you hear/feel a click.
  • Lightly tug the blade to confirm it’s locked on.

Step 5: Repeat removal/installation for the passenger-side wiper blade

  • Lift the passenger wiper arm by hand (use nitrile gloves).
  • Remove the old blade using the same release-tab method (use small flathead screwdriver only if needed).
  • Install the new passenger blade and confirm it clicks and locks.

Step 6: Return the wipers to normal parked position

  • Gently lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield.
  • Turn ignition ON.
  • Use the wiper stalk to run the wipers once, then turn them OFF so they park normally.
  • Remove the painter’s tape and microfiber towel.

âś… After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and run the wipers on low speed to confirm smooth wiping and no streaks.
  • If you see skipping/chatter, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel.
  • Confirm both blades are fully clipped in (no loose feeling at the hook connection).
