šŸ”§ Pilot - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

On your Pilot, the easiest (and safest) way to change the front wiper blades is to put the wiper arms into the ā€œmaintenance/service positionā€ first. This lifts the blades away from the hood edge so you don’t chip paint or crack the windshield.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Keep fingers clear of the wiper arm spring—if it snaps down, it can crack the glass.
  • āš ļø Put a folded towel on the windshield under the arm while the blade is off.
  • āš ļø Use the wiper maintenance/service position so the arm doesn’t hit the hood.
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Microfiber towel
  • Step stool

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 22" - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to P.
  • Turn the vehicle OFF and remove anything from the windshield area.
  • Have a microfiber towel ready to protect the glass.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in maintenance/service position

  • Turn ignition to ON (engine can stay off).
  • Turn ignition OFF.
  • Within 10 seconds, move and hold the wiper stalk to MIST for about 2 seconds.
  • The wipers should move up and stop in a raised ā€œserviceā€ position. This prevents hood contact.

Step 2: Lift the first wiper arm safely

  • Use the microfiber towel and lay it on the windshield under the wiper area.
  • Lift the wiper arm away from the glass and keep a hand on it (it’s spring-loaded).

Step 3: Remove the old blade from the wiper arm

  • Rotate the blade so you can see the connector where it clips to the arm.
  • Press the small release tab on the connector and slide the blade off the arm hook.
  • If it feels stuck, keep the tab pressed and wiggle while sliding—don’t pry on the glass.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Slide the new blade connector onto the wiper arm until it clicks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

  • Use the microfiber towel again and repeat Steps 2–4 for the other front wiper.
  • Replace both blades together for best wiping.

Step 6: Return wipers to normal position

  • Lower both wiper arms carefully back onto the windshield.
  • Turn ignition to ON.
  • Use the wiper stalk for one normal wipe cycle, or turn ignition OFF and then ON to let them park normally.

āœ… After Repair

  • Test the washers and wipers on low speed and confirm no skipping or chattering.
  • Make sure both blades sit flat and don’t hit the hood or A-pillars.
  • Clean the windshield with glass cleaner to prevent streaking.
