🔧 Sentra - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll put the wiper arms into “service position” (so they lift away from the hood), remove the old blade assemblies, and snap on new ones. This is quick maintenance, but you need to protect the windshield because a bare wiper arm can crack glass if it snaps down.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge while lifting the wiper arm.
  • ⚠️ Never let a wiper arm snap onto the windshield without a blade installed.
  • ⚠️ Place a folded towel on the windshield where the arm could land.
  • ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF before handling the wiper arms.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Work gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 28" (common) / Passenger: 15" (common) - Qty: 2
  • Windshield washer fluid - Qty: 1 gallon

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition ON, then turn it OFF.
  • Put the wipers into service position: within 15 seconds of turning the ignition OFF, use the wiper stalk and push it up to the MIST position twice. The wipers should stop in the “up” position where you can lift the arms. Service position prevents hood contact.
  • Lay a microfiber towel on the lower windshield as a safety cushion.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely

  • Use work gloves and gently lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Keep the microfiber towel on the glass under the arm.

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade from the arm

  • Look where the blade connects to the arm. The Sentra uses a common “hook-style” connector (a J-shaped hook).
  • Press the small release tab on the blade connector. If it’s stiff, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently press the tab. (A flathead screwdriver is a small straight-tip screwdriver used to press/pry clips.)
  • Slide the blade down and away from the hook to unclip it, then remove the blade.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Compare the new blade to the old one to confirm the same length and connector style.
  • Align the new blade’s connector with the hook on the arm.
  • Slide it into place until you hear/feel a click (the tab locks).
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Use work gloves and slowly lower the arm back onto the windshield.
  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other side.

Step 5: Exit service position

  • Turn the ignition ON.
  • Use the wiper stalk to run the wipers once, then turn them OFF so they park normally.

âś… After Repair

  • Top off windshield washer fluid and test the washers.
  • Test wipers on low speed with washer fluid to confirm smooth wiping and no streaking.
  • If you hear chatter, clean the windshield and wipe the rubber edge with a damp towel. Dirty glass ruins new blades fast.
