How to Replace Front Windshield Wiper Blades on a 2015 Ford Focus
Step-by-step service-position instructions, tools/parts list, and safety tips for a quick DIY swap

🔧 Focus - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and prevents the metal wiper arm from scratching your windshield. You’ll put the wipers into “service position,” swap both blades, then return them to their normal parked position.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
Assumption: your Focus uses 28" driver + 28" passenger blades; verify on the old blade label/length before buying.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition OFF before handling the wipers.
- Do not let the wiper arm snap down on the glass— it can crack the windshield.
- Lay a towel on the lower windshield area as a safety cushion.
- No battery disconnect is required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park your Focus on level ground and make sure the wipers are not frozen to the glass.
- Place a microfiber towel at the base of the windshield to protect the glass.
- Put the wipers into service position so the arms can be lifted safely.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Put the wipers in “service position”
- Turn the ignition ON, then turn it OFF.
- Within 3 seconds, move and hold the wiper stalk DOWN (mist/wipe) for a few seconds until the wipers move up and stop partway on the windshield.
- Use painter’s tape to mark where each blade sits on the glass (helps alignment).
Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield carefully.
- Slide a microfiber towel under the arm area as extra protection.
Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade
- Most Focus front wipers use a J-hook arm (a J-shaped end that hooks into the blade adapter).
- Press the blade’s release tab with your fingers while sliding the blade down and off the hook.
- Once it’s free, set the old blade aside and gently rest the arm back slightly (do not let it snap).
Step 4: Install the new driver-side blade
- Remove the new blade from packaging and confirm it’s the correct length.
- Slide the new blade adapter onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
- Lightly tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side
- Lift the passenger wiper arm carefully.
- Remove the old blade the same way (press tab, slide off).
- Install the new blade until it clicks, then tug-test it.
Step 6: Return wipers to normal parked position
- Remove the painter’s tape from the windshield.
- Turn the ignition ON and run the wipers once, then turn them OFF so they park normally.
âś… After Repair
- Spray washer fluid and run the wipers at low speed to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
- Check that each blade is fully clipped on (no wobble at the arm connection).
- If you see streaking, clean the windshield and blade rubber with a clean microfiber towel and washer fluid.
