🔧 WRX - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll put the wiper arms into “service position,” remove the old blades, and snap on new blades that match your WRX’s attachment style. Doing this correctly prevents scratching the windshield and keeps the wipers from hitting the hood.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🛑 Turn the ignition OFF before lifting wiper arms.
  • 🛑 Never let the bare wiper arm snap onto the glass (it can crack the windshield).
  • 🛑 Lift the arm gently—don’t force it against the hood edge.
  • 🛑 No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Microfiber towel
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades (exact-fit for your WRX) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🅿️ Park on level ground, transmission in gear, and set the parking brake.
  • 📏 Check the length printed on each old blade (or measure) so you buy the correct driver/passenger sizes.
  • 🧼 Place a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a “just in case” buffer.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers into service position

  • Use your gloved hands to make sure the wipers are in their normal “parked” position.
  • Turn the ignition to ON, then OFF.
  • Within about 30 seconds, use the wiper stalk and hold it in the “mist” (up) position for about 2 seconds until the wipers move up and stop (service position).
  • If it doesn’t move, repeat ON then OFF.

Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm safely

  • Use your gloved hands to lift the wiper arm away from the glass until it stays up on its own.
  • Keep the microfiber towel on the glass below the arm while you work.

Step 3: Release the old blade from the wiper arm

  • Use your gloved hands to rotate the blade so you can see the release tab/clip where the blade connects to the arm.
  • If the tab is tight, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to gently press the release tab (don’t pry hard).
  • Slide the blade downward/off the arm (direction depends on the connector—move it the way it naturally unlocks once the tab is pressed).

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Use your gloved hands to align the new blade’s connector with the wiper arm.
  • Slide/push the blade on until you hear/feel a solid “click.”
  • Gently tug the blade with your gloved hands to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger-side wiper

  • Use your gloved hands to repeat Steps 2–4 on the passenger side.
  • Make sure you install the correct length blade on each side (don’t mix them up).

Step 6: Return the wipers to the parked position

  • Use your gloved hands to carefully lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield.
  • Turn ignition ON and use the wiper stalk once; the wipers should return to their normal parked position.
  • Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.

✅ After Repair

  • 🧪 Test washers and wipers on low speed, then high speed, and verify no skipping or clacking.
  • 🔍 Check that both blades sit flat and don’t hit the hood or A-pillars.
  • 🧼 Clean the windshield where the blades sweep for best performance.
