🔧 Highlander - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old wiper blade assemblies from the front wiper arms and snap new ones on. This restores clear vision in rain and reduces streaking and chatter.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
Assumption: Your Highlander uses the common J-hook wiper arm connection.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep a firm grip on each wiper arm; if it snaps back it can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield under the arm while working.
- ⚠️ Work with the engine OFF and key/fob away from the vehicle so the wipers can’t move unexpectedly.

- Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 20" - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Lay a microfiber towel on the windshield below each wiper arm.
- If the wiper arms hit the hood when you try to lift them, use “service position”:
- Turn ignition ON, then OFF, then within about 45 seconds move the wiper stalk to MIST (one quick upward push) twice to park the wipers up for service. Service position = blades lifted for access.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift and protect the wiper arm
- Use your hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the glass.
- Place the microfiber towel under the arm on the windshield.
- Hold the arm the whole time.
Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade from the J-hook
- Rotate the wiper blade so it’s about 90° to the arm (this makes the release easier).
- Find the small release tab where the blade meets the arm.
- Press the tab with your fingers; if it’s stiff, use a plastic trim tool to gently press it. Trim tool = plastic pry tool that won’t scratch.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade down toward the base of the J-hook to unhook it, then pull it off.
Step 3: Install the new wiper blade
- With the wiper arm still lifted, line up the new blade’s connector with the J-hook.
- Slide it onto the hook until you hear/feel a click.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 4: Lower the arm carefully
- Remove the microfiber towel.
- Use your hand to lower the arm back onto the windshield slowly.
Step 5: Repeat for the passenger side
- Repeat Steps 1–4 on the passenger-side blade.
âś… After Repair
- Turn ignition ON and run the front washers to wet the glass, then test LOW and HIGH wiper speeds.
- If you used service position, cycle ignition ON then OFF and tap the wiper stalk once to let them return to normal park.
- Make sure both blades wipe smoothly with no streaks or skipping.
