- Put the wipers into āservice positionā so the arms can lift higher.
- Place a cardboard sheet or microfiber towel on the windshield where the arms could fall.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Put the wipers in service position
- Turn the car to IG-ON (dash lights on) and then turn it OFF (use the Power button).
- Within 45 seconds, move the wiper stalk to MIST (one quick up position) and hold it for about 2 seconds.
- The wipers should move up and stop partway on the windshield (this is āservice position,ā meaning a maintenance parking spot).
- If they donāt move, repeat the on-then-off sequence.
Step 2: Lift and protect the wiper arms
- Place a microfiber towel or cardboard sheet under each arm area on the glass.
- Lift one wiper arm up carefully. Use painterās tape to lightly mark where the blade sits, so you can compare alignment after.
Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade
- Rotate the blade so you can see the connector where it clips to the arm (usually a āJ-hookā style, meaning the arm end is shaped like a J).
- Press the small release tab on the blade connector using your thumb (wear nitrile gloves for grip).
- While holding the tab, slide the blade down and off the hook.
- Keep one hand on the arm so it doesnāt spring back.
Step 4: Install the new wiper blade
- Confirm sizes: 26" for driver side, 18" for passenger side.
- Slide the new blade connector onto the wiper arm hook until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm itās fully latched.
Step 5: Lower the arm carefully
- Lower the arm back onto the windshield slowly with your hand controlling it.
- Repeat Steps 2ā5 for the other side.
Step 6: Exit service position and test
- Remove the painterās tape, microfiber towel, and cardboard sheet.
- Turn the car ON and briefly run the wipers with washer fluid to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
- If thereās streaking, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and wipe the rubber edge with a damp towel.
ā After Repair
- Test both speeds and washer spray. Confirm the blades donāt hit trim or the A-pillars.
- Listen for clicking (a sign the blade isnāt fully clipped on).
- New blades work best on clean glass.
