🔧 Forester - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades on your Forester is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain and reduces streaking and chatter. You’ll remove each old blade from the wiper arm and clip the new blade onto the same attachment.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Keep a firm hold on the wiper arm at all times—if it snaps back, it can crack the windshield.
- 🛑 Turn the ignition OFF and make sure wipers are not mid-sweep before lifting the arms.
- 🛑 Don’t force the arm higher than it naturally lifts; it can bend the arm spring.
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the ignition OFF.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a safety cushion.
- Optional: put a short strip of masking tape on the glass where each blade rests so you can return the arm gently to the same spot.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Use nitrile gloves and lift the driver-side wiper arm up away from the windshield.
- Use a clean microfiber towel to protect the windshield under the arm. Hold the arm so it can’t snap back.
Step 2: Remove the old blade from the wiper arm
- Use safety glasses and look at where the blade connects to the arm (the “hook” is the curved end of the arm).
- Use your hands (with nitrile gloves) to press the small release tab on the blade connector.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it, then pull it free.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Use nitrile gloves to remove the new blade from packaging and confirm it’s the 26" blade.
- Slide the new blade’s connector onto the wiper arm hook and pull it upward until it clicks/locks into place.
- Gently tug on the blade (use nitrile gloves) to confirm it’s fully latched.
Step 4: Lower the driver-side arm safely
- Use your hand (with nitrile gloves) to guide the arm down until the blade rests on the glass.
- Remove the masking tape if you used it.
Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side
- Use nitrile gloves and repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger side using the 17" blade.
- Keep the clean microfiber towel on the glass while working to prevent accidental chips/cracks.
âś… After Repair
- đźšż Start the vehicle and test the front washers and wipers at low speed first.
- Check that both blades wipe cleanly without skipping, streaking, or hitting the windshield trim.
- If there’s chatter, clean the windshield and the new rubber edges with a clean microfiber towel and washer fluid.
