🔧 Rogue - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old front wiper blades from the arms on your Rogue and installing new ones. This restores clear vision in rain and prevents scratching the glass if the rubber is worn.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🔸Always switch the ignition off and remove the key so the wipers do not move while you’re working.
  • 🔸Do not let the bare metal wiper arm snap back onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • 🔸Work gently with the plastic clips; forcing them can break the new blade or arm hook.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 🔸Small flathead screwdriver (3-4 mm tip)
  • 🔸Microfiber towel
  • 🔸Step stool (if needed for reach)
  • 🔸Work gloves
  • 🔸Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • 🔸Front driver-side wiper blade (26") - Qty: 1
  • 🔸Front passenger-side wiper blade (17") - Qty: 1
  • 🔸Windshield washer fluid (ready-mix) - Qty: 1
  • 🔸Small packet of rubber-safe silicone spray - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park the Rogue on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key.
  • Lift the wiper arms gently off the glass so they stand up away from the windshield.
  • Place a folded microfiber towel on the glass under each arm in case it slips.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift and support the wiper arms

  • Use your hands (no tools) to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up by itself.
  • Place the folded microfiber towel on the glass where the blade normally rests, as a cushion.
  • Always protect glass from bare metal arm

Step 2: Locate the release tab on the old blade

  • Stand at the side of the Rogue and look at the joint where the wiper blade connects to the metal arm.
  • You will see a small plastic tab or latch on the blade’s adapter that locks onto the hook-shaped arm.
  • If the tab is hard to see, use the small flathead screwdriver to gently move nearby plastic so you can find it. A flathead screwdriver is a tool with a flat, straight tip.

Step 3: Release and slide off the old blade

  • Use your thumb to press the plastic release tab in toward the blade. If it’s stuck, use the small flathead screwdriver to push the tab gently.
  • While holding the tab in, slide the entire blade downward, toward the bottom of the wiper arm, so the hook in the arm comes out of the blade’s adapter.
  • Once the hook is free, rotate the blade away and remove it completely from the arm.
  • Carefully lower the arm to rest on the microfiber towel so it does not hit the glass.

Step 4: Match the new blade and adapter

  • Check the new driver-side blade: it should be 26" and usually includes several adapter pieces.
  • Find the adapter that looks like the one you just removed (for a hook-style arm). Many kits include it pre-installed.
  • Lay old and new blades side by side to compare

Step 5: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Lift the wiper arm off the windshield again and rest the arm carefully in the air, still over the microfiber towel.
  • Turn the new blade so the adapter opening faces the hook on the wiper arm.
  • Slide the hook of the arm into the adapter opening and pull the blade upward along the arm until you hear or feel a click as it locks.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it is locked and cannot slide off.
  • Lower the arm slowly onto the glass, removing the microfiber towel just before the blade touches the windshield.

Step 6: Repeat removal on the passenger-side blade

  • Lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield using your hands.
  • Place the microfiber towel on the glass below the blade.
  • Press the release tab on the blade adapter with your thumb (or the small flathead screwdriver) and slide the blade downward off the arm hook, just like the driver side.
  • Remove the old 17" blade and rest the arm briefly on the towel.

Step 7: Install the new passenger-side blade

  • Lift the passenger arm again off the glass and hold it in the air over the towel.
  • Check that you have the 17" blade for this side and the correct hook-style adapter in place.
  • Slide the arm hook into the adapter opening on the new blade and pull the blade upward until it clicks into lock position.
  • Lightly tug the blade to ensure it is fully seated and secure.
  • Remove the microfiber towel and gently lower the arm so the new blade rests on the glass.

Step 8: Clean the windshield and blade edges

  • Use the microfiber towel to wipe any dirt from the windshield where the blades sweep.
  • If you have silicone spray, lightly spray it on the towel (not directly on the glass) and wipe along the rubber edge of each new blade once. Silicone spray is a lubricant that helps keep rubber flexible.
  • Do not over-spray; a light wipe is enough

Step 9: Check operation of the new wipers

  • Get into the Rogue, turn the ignition on, and use the washer switch to spray fluid and run the wipers.
  • Watch for smooth, quiet movement with no streaks or skipping. If a blade looks loose or crooked, turn the ignition off, lift the arm, and re-check that it is fully clicked into place.

âś… After Repair

  • Run the wipers at low and high speed with washer fluid to confirm clean wiping and no unusual noise.
  • Check that both blades park (rest) correctly at the bottom of the windshield.
  • Top up windshield washer fluid if it is low after testing.
  • Re-check attachment after a day or two of driving to ensure both blades are still firmly locked.
