🔧 Malibu - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll be removing the old wiper blade assemblies and snapping new ones onto the wiper arms. Good wiper blades improve visibility and help protect your windshield from streaking and scratching.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the wiper arm hinge; it can pinch.
- ⚠️ Do not let the bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before handling the wipers.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Clean shop towel
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 24", Passenger: 19" - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Lift one wiper arm at a time so you don’t mix up sides.
- Place a clean shop towel on the lower windshield area as a cushion.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Gently lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Slide a clean shop towel under the arm area on the glass. Prevents accidental glass damage.
Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade
- Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm.
- Find the small release tab/clip where the blade connects to the arm (this is the lock that holds the blade on).
- Press the release tab with your thumb, then slide the blade down and off the hook-style end of the arm.
- Keep a hand on the wiper arm so it cannot spring back toward the glass.
Step 3: Install the new wiper blade
- Confirm you have the correct sizes: 24" for driver side and 19" for passenger side.
- Align the new blade connector with the wiper arm hook.
- Slide the new blade onto the arm until you hear/feel a click.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 4: Lower the wiper arm and repeat on the other side
- Carefully lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Repeat Steps 1–3 for the other front wiper blade.
- Remove the clean shop towel.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and run the front wipers on low speed for 10–15 seconds.
- Spray washer fluid and check for streaks, chatter, or missed areas.
- If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge with a damp clean shop towel and retest.
