🔧 QX80 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility and reduces streaking and chatter. On your QX80, the front blades use a “J-hook” style connection, so the job is quick once the arm is in the service position.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge; the spring-loaded wiper arm can snap down.
- ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield; a bare wiper arm can crack glass if it drops.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before lifting the arms to avoid accidental movement.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the ignition OFF.
- Lift the wiper arms only as high as needed, and place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each arm.
- Tip: Replace both blades for even wiping.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the windshield
- Place a microfiber towel on the windshield where each wiper blade would rest.
- Put on safety glasses and mechanic gloves.
Step 2: Lift the wiper arm
- Carefully lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the glass until it stays up.
- Do not force it past its normal stop.
Step 3: Release the old blade from the J-hook
- At the connection point, rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm.
- Press the small release tab on the blade adapter (use your fingers; if tight, gently help it with a trim clip tool).
- Trim clip tool = a plastic pry tool.
- Slide the blade down and out of the J-hook.
Step 4: Install the new blade
- Confirm the new blade matches the old blade’s length and connector style.
- Slide the new blade’s adapter onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.
Step 5: Lower the arm safely
- Hold the wiper arm and lower it back onto the towel-covered windshield.
- Remove the towel once the blade is resting normally.
Step 6: Repeat on the passenger side
- Repeat Steps 2–5 for the passenger-side wiper blade.
Step 7: Quick washer top-off (optional but recommended)
- Open the hood and add windshield washer fluid if the reservoir is low.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and run the front wipers on low, then high, to confirm smooth wiping.
- Use the washer spray and check for streaks or missed areas.
- If a blade chatters, clean the glass and blade edge with washer fluid and a towel.
