🔧 Q50 - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old front wiper blades and snap on new ones. On your Q50, it’s best to put the wiper arms into a “service position” first so they lift safely without hitting the hood edge.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and keep fingers clear of the wiper linkage.
- ⚠️ Do not let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield—put a towel on the glass. The spring-loaded arm can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ Lift the wiper arms gently; if they contact the hood edge, stop and use the service position procedure below.
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm to protect the glass.
- Assumption: common Q50 sizes are 26"/17"; verify with a tape measure.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Put the wipers in service position
- Try this first: turn ignition ON, then turn it OFF.
- Within about 60 seconds, move the wiper stalk to MIST (one quick up wipe) twice to park the blades higher for service.
- If they don’t move to service position, do not force the arms up against the hood edge—continue to Step 2 carefully.
Step 2: Lift the wiper arm safely
- Use your hand to lift one wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Keep the microfiber towel under the arm area in case it slips.
Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade
- Find the connector where the blade attaches to the arm (the plastic joint).
- Press the small release tab on the connector. If it’s stubborn, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently help press the tab. Do not pry hard.
- Slide the blade down and off the arm hook/adapter.
Step 4: Install the new wiper blade
- Match the new blade to the side you’re working on (use a tape measure if needed).
- Align the new blade’s adapter with the arm’s connector and slide it on until it clicks.
- Lightly tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 5: Lower the arm and repeat on the other side
- Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield gently.
- Repeat Steps 2–4 for the other front wiper blade.
Step 6: Exit service position
- Turn ignition ON and run the wipers once using the stalk to let them return to normal park position.
- Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.
âś… After Repair
- Spray washer fluid and run the wipers at low speed to confirm smooth wiping with no skipping.
- If you see streaks, wipe the windshield edge-to-edge with a clean towel; wax/film can cause chatter.
- Make sure both blades are fully clipped in and not loose at the connector.
