🔧 Forester - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old front wiper blade assemblies from the wiper arms and snap new blades on. Fresh blades restore clear visibility and reduce streaking and chatter.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before lifting the wiper arms.
- ⚠️ Place a towel on the windshield so the arm can’t smack the glass.
- ⚠️ Never let a bare wiper arm snap down; it can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Put a clean shop towel on the windshield under each wiper arm.
- Lift one wiper arm at a time until it stays up on its hinge.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely
- Use a clean shop towel to protect the glass where the arm could fall.
- Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it “locks” in the up position.
Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade from the arm
- Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular (a “T” shape) to the wiper arm.
- Find the small release tab at the connection point.
- Press the tab by hand; if it’s stiff, gently help it with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
- While the tab is pressed, slide the blade down and off the hook/connector.
- Tip: Keep a hand on the arm.
Step 3: Install the new wiper blade
- Compare the new blade to the old one for the same length.
- Slide the new blade onto the arm’s connector until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.
Step 4: Lower the arm back onto the windshield
- Hold the arm and slowly lower it onto the glass.
- Remove the clean shop towel.
Step 5: Repeat for the other front wiper
- Replace the second blade using the same steps.
✅ After Repair
- Spray washer fluid and run the wipers for 10–15 seconds to confirm smooth wiping and no streaks.
- If you see streaks, clean the windshield and the new blade rubber with a clean shop towel.
- Make sure both blades park at the bottom of the windshield correctly.
