🔧 Camry - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old front wiper blades from your Camry and installing new ones on the existing wiper arms. This restores clear visibility in rain and helps prevent streaking or scratching the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🔹 Always turn the ignition off and ensure the wipers are in their “parked” position (down at the bottom of the windshield).
  • 🔹 Do not let the bare wiper arm snap back onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • 🔹 Work in a well-lit area and keep the hood closed so the wiper arms can lift fully.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Small flathead screwdriver (3-4 mm tip)
  • Measuring tape (at least 30 inches)
  • Shop towels
  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile or mechanic gloves (medium/light duty)

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front driver-side wiper blade (26") - Qty: 1
  • Front passenger-side wiper blade (18") - Qty: 1
  • Windshield washer fluid (pre-mixed) - Qty: 1 bottle

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park the Camry on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn ignition to OFF and remove the key (or switch engine OFF and open driver door if push-button start).
  • Make sure the wiper arms are at the bottom of the windshield, not mid-swipe.
  • Lay a folded shop towel on the glass under each wiper to protect the windshield in case an arm slips.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm the correct blade sizes

  • Use the measuring tape to measure your existing blades if you want to double-check sizes.
  • The driver side should be about 26 inches, and the passenger side about 18 inches.
  • Lay new blades next to old ones to confirm length.

Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Wiper arm: the metal piece that holds the rubber blade.
  • Gently pull the driver-side wiper arm up and away from the windshield until it locks in a raised position.
  • Make sure the shop towel is in place on the glass under the arm.

Step 3: Locate the release tab on the wiper blade

  • On your Camry, the blade uses a "J-hook" style attachment (a curved hook at the end of the arm).
  • Look at the center of the wiper blade where it connects to the arm — you’ll see a small plastic tab or latch.
  • If the tab is hard to see, use the small flathead screwdriver to gently move any cover piece aside.

Step 4: Release and remove the old driver-side blade

  • Press the small plastic release tab with your finger or use the small flathead screwdriver gently.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade down toward the base of the arm so the hook comes out of the adapter hole.
  • Once free, rotate the blade so it is parallel to the arm and slide it off completely.
  • Carefully lower the bare arm onto the shop towel so it doesn’t snap onto the glass.

Step 5: Attach the new driver-side blade

  • Pick up the new 26" driver-side blade and find the plastic adapter that will accept the J-hook.
  • Lift the wiper arm back up away from the glass with one hand.
  • Hook the curved end of the arm through the opening in the new blade’s adapter.
  • Slide the blade up into the hook until you hear or feel a click; this means it is locked.
  • Gently tug on the blade with your hand to confirm it is firmly attached.
  • Carefully lower the wiper back onto the windshield.

Step 6: Repeat removal on the passenger side

  • Lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it locks upright.
  • Press the release tab at the connector using your finger or the small flathead screwdriver.
  • Slide the old 18" blade down toward the arm base to unhook it, then slide it off.
  • Lower the bare arm gently onto the towel if you need a moment.

Step 7: Install the new passenger-side blade

  • Lift the arm again and take the new 18" passenger-side blade.
  • Insert the J-hook of the arm into the adapter opening on the new blade.
  • Slide the blade up along the arm hook until it clicks and locks.
  • Gently pull on the blade to verify it is secure.
  • Lower the passenger-side arm and blade back onto the windshield.

Step 8: Final checks and cleaning

  • Remove all shop towels from the windshield area.
  • Use a clean shop towel to wipe the rubber edge of each new blade once. This removes any manufacturing residue.
  • If you have new washer fluid, top up the reservoir now.

âś… After Repair

  • 🔹 Start the Camry and spray windshield washer fluid while operating the wipers for several passes.
  • 🔹 Check that both blades move smoothly, wipe cleanly, and do not chatter or skip.
  • 🔹 Make sure the blades park correctly at the bottom of the windshield and do not hit the hood trim.
  • 🔹 If a blade seems loose, shut the car off and re-check that it is fully clicked into the J-hook adapter.
