šŸ”§ Altima - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Your Altima’s front wiper blades wear out over time and start streaking, chattering, or leaving missed spots. Replacing the blades restores clear visibility and helps protect the windshield from scratching.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Don’t let the wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • āš ļø Replace one blade at a time so arms don’t get mixed up.
  • āš ļø Work with the ignition OFF and wipers fully parked.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Small towel
  • Masking tape

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 28", Passenger: 17" (verify fit) - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and confirm the wipers are in their ā€œparkedā€ position at the bottom of the windshield.
  • Place a small towel on the lower windshield area as a safety cushion.
  • Use masking tape to mark the resting position of each blade on the glass if you want an easy reference.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Keep the small towel on the glass underneath as protection.
  • Hold the arm firmly the whole time.

Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • At the center of the blade, find the connector where the blade attaches to the arm.
  • Most Altima wiper arms use a J-hook (a J-shaped end). Slide the blade down toward the base of the arm to unhook it.
  • If there’s a small lock tab, press it with your thumb while sliding the blade down and off.
  • If stuck, wiggle while sliding.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Take the new blade and confirm it matches the old one’s length and connector style.
  • Hook the new blade’s connector onto the J-hook, then pull it upward until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm safely

  • Carefully lower the arm back onto the windshield, guiding it down by hand.
  • Remove the small towel.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger-side blade.
  • Use the masking tape marks to confirm both blades rest in the correct parked area.

āœ… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the front wipers on low speed for 10–15 seconds.
  • Spray washer fluid and confirm both blades wipe cleanly without streaks or skipping.
  • If a blade chatters, clean the windshield and the blade edge with washer fluid and a clean rag.
