🔧 Front Windshield Wiper Blades - Replacement

Your RAV4 uses a hooked front wiper arm setup, so this job is a simple blade swap. You’ll remove the old blades from the metal arms and snap the new ones in place. It’s a quick beginner repair that usually takes just a few minutes.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting so the wipers do not move unexpectedly.
  • Keep the wiper arms from snapping against the glass.
  • If a wiper arm is raised off the windshield, hold it securely while swapping the blade.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • None required
  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade - Driver: 26", Qty: 1
  • Front wiper blade - Passenger: 16", Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and switch the ignition off.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Lift one wiper arm at a time so it does not snap back onto the glass.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Pull the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays upright.
  • Repeat for the passenger side only after the first blade is installed.
  • Hold the arm firmly so it cannot spring back.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Use your fingers to press the small release tab on the blade connector.
  • Slide the blade downward to unhook it from the arm.
  • Remove the blade from the arm carefully.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Align the new 26" blade with the driver-side wiper arm hook.
  • Slide the hook into the connector until it clicks.
  • Gently tug the blade to make sure it is locked in place.

Step 4: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Remove the old passenger blade the same way.
  • Install the new 16" blade and confirm it clicks into place.
  • Make sure both blades sit straight on the arm.

Step 5: Lower the arms carefully

  • Set each wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly.
  • Do not let the arm drop onto the glass.
  • Wipe the windshield with a microfiber towel if needed.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition on and test the wipers with washer fluid.
  • Check that both blades sweep smoothly with no streaking or chatter.
  • If a blade lifts, chatters, or skips, recheck that it is fully locked to the arm.
