🔧 Civic - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old front wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap the new blades on. Worn blades can streak, chatter, or leave missed spots, which reduces visibility in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Do not let a wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Work with the ignition OFF and wipers OFF.
  • ⚠️ If a blade is stuck, don’t pry on the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Tape (painter’s tape or masking tape)

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade - Driver: 26" - Qty: 1
  • Front wiper blade - Passenger: 18" - Qty: 1
  • Windshield washer fluid - Qty: 1 gallon

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, turn the car OFF, and remove the key.
  • Lift each wiper arm up away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the glass under the wiper area as a cushion.
  • Add a short strip of tape on the windshield to mark where each blade parks.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the old driver-side blade

  • Lift the driver wiper arm up, then rotate the blade so it’s easier to access.
  • Find the small release tab at the connection (this is the little lock that holds the blade to the arm).
  • Press the tab with your fingers; if it’s tight, use a small flathead screwdriver gently to help push the tab.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade down and off the hook at the end of the arm.
  • Hold the arm with your other hand.

Step 2: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Confirm you have the 26" blade for the driver side.
  • Hook the new blade onto the end of the wiper arm and slide it until it clicks/locks.
  • Lightly tug the blade (by hand) to confirm it’s locked on.

Step 3: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Lift the passenger wiper arm up and rotate the blade for access.
  • Press the release tab and slide the old blade off (use the small flathead screwdriver only if needed).
  • Install the new 18" blade and confirm it clicks into place.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arms safely

  • Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.
  • Lower each arm down slowly by hand until it rests on the glass.

Step 5: Quick functional check

  • Top off washer fluid if needed.
  • Start the car and mist the windshield using the washer, then run the wipers.
  • If you see streaking, wipe the windshield with the microfiber towel (road film can cause streaks even with new blades).

✅ After Repair

  • Confirm both blades park in the normal position and don’t hit the trim.
  • Verify the wipers wipe evenly with no skipping or loud chatter.
  • If one blade lifts at highway speed, re-check that it’s fully clicked into the arm.
