šŸ”§ Grand Cherokee - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing your front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and helps prevent streaking and chatter. On your Grand Cherokee, the easiest way is to put the wiper arms into ā€œservice positionā€ so you can lift them safely away from the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF before touching the wiper arms.
  • āš ļø Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield—place a towel on the glass while swapping blades.
  • āš ļø Keep fingers clear of the wiper arm hinge; spring tension can pinch.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Shop towel

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 21" - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Put the wipers in service position: turn ignition ON, then turn ignition OFF, then within 10 seconds move the wiper stalk up once (mist) so the arms ā€œparkā€ up on the windshield.
  • Lay a shop towel on the windshield under each wiper arm.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use nitrile gloves and lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it holds itself up.
  • Keep the shop towel on the glass as protection.

Step 2: Release the blade from the wiper arm

  • Use safety glasses and look where the blade connects to the arm (the ā€œadapter,ā€ which is the plastic connector).
  • Press the small release tab/button on the adapter, then slide the blade down and off the hook-shaped end of the arm.
  • If stuck, wiggle while pressing the tab.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Use nitrile gloves and slide the new blade’s adapter onto the wiper arm hook until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the arm carefully

  • Use the shop towel as a buffer and lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly.
  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other side.

Step 5: Return wipers to normal park position

  • Remove the shop towel.
  • Turn ignition ON and run the wipers once, then turn them OFF to confirm they park normally.

āœ… After Repair

  • Test washers and wipers at low speed, then high speed.
  • If you see streaking, clean the windshield and the new blade rubber with a damp shop towel.
  • Make sure each blade is the correct side (22" driver, 21" passenger) and fully clicked in.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $40-$90 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $25-$55 (parts only)

You Save: $15-$35 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.4 hours.
