🔧 Durango - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Durango is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and snap the new ones into place.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep a firm grip on the wiper arm—if it snaps down it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Don’t lift the wiper arms higher than needed; use gentle movement to avoid bending them.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before starting so the wipers can’t move unexpectedly.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small step stool
  • Clean shop towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Wipe the windshield edge area with a clean shop towel so grit doesn’t scratch glass.
  • Lay a clean shop towel on the windshield under each wiper arm as a cushion (optional but smart).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm(s)

  • Use a small step stool if needed to comfortably reach.
  • Lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its hinge.
  • Work one side at a time.

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • At the middle of the blade, find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Press the release tab with your fingers and slide the blade down and off the hook (this common style is called a “J-hook,” meaning the arm end looks like a letter J).
  • If it’s stuck, wiggle the blade while keeping the tab pressed—don’t pry against the glass.

Step 3: Install the new wiper blade

  • Confirm sizes before installing: 26" (driver) and 18" (passenger).
  • Slide the new blade’s connector onto the J-hook end until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Use your hand to guide the arm down—do not let it drop.
  • Remove the clean shop towel from the windshield if you placed it there.
  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade.

âś… After Repair

  • Start the engine and run the washers/wipers to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
  • If you see streaking, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a clean shop towel, then re-test.
  • If a blade “chatters,” re-check that the connector is fully clicked in and the blade isn’t installed on the wrong side.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $40-$90 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $25-$60 (parts only)

You Save: $15-$30 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.5 hours.
