🔧 LaCrosse - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility and reduces streaking and chatter. This is a quick job: you’ll lift each wiper arm, remove the old blade from its connector, and click the new blade on.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
Assumption: Your LaCrosse uses the common GM hook-style or push-tab connector; steps include both.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge as you lift the wiper arm.
- ⚠️ Do not let the bare wiper arm snap onto the glass (it can crack the windshield).
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF before lifting wiper arms.
- ⚠️ If the glass is hot (sun), work carefully to avoid sudden stress.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition OFF and make sure the wipers are in their “parked” (down) position.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield as a cushion, just in case the arm slips.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Use a step stool if needed and lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Slide a clean microfiber towel under the arm area on the glass for protection.
Step 2: Identify the blade connector type
- Look where the blade meets the wiper arm.
- Most are “hook-style” with a small release tab.
- If you see a curved metal “J” hook, use the Hook-Style steps below.
- If you see a rectangular latch you squeeze on both sides, use the Pinch-Tab steps below.
Step 3: Remove the old blade (Hook-Style connector)
- Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular (90°) to the wiper arm.
- Press the small release tab using your thumb (wear nitrile gloves for grip).
- While holding the tab, slide the blade down and out of the hook.
Step 4: Remove the old blade (Pinch-Tab connector)
- Locate the two small tabs on the sides of the connector.
- Squeeze both tabs firmly with your fingers (use nitrile gloves for grip).
- While squeezing, slide the blade straight off the arm.
Step 5: Install the new blade
- Unpack the new blade and confirm it matches the old one’s length.
- If the new blade includes adapter pieces, snap on the adapter that matches your connector shape.
- For hook-style: feed the hook through the blade’s opening and pull until it clicks/locks.
- For pinch-tab: slide the blade onto the arm until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 6: Lower the arm carefully
- Hold the wiper arm as you lower it so it does not slap the windshield.
- Remove the clean microfiber towel from the glass.
Step 7: Repeat for the passenger-side
- Repeat Steps 1–6 on the passenger-side wiper.
- Replace wipers in pairs for even wiping.
✅ After Repair
- Start the car and test the wipers on low speed, then high speed.
- Use washer fluid and verify there’s no skipping, streaking, or the blade coming loose.
- If you hear a loud slap or see streaks, re-check that the blade adapter is fully clicked in.
