🔧 Corolla - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be replacing the rubber wiper blades that clip onto the metal wiper arms. Worn blades cause streaks, noise, and poor visibility, so swapping them is quick and restores clear wiping.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ The wiper arm is spring-loaded—don’t let it snap onto the glass (it can crack the windshield).
  • ⚠️ Work with the ignition OFF and wipers OFF.
  • ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield where the arms might drop.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves
  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Masking tape

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades (match existing blade lengths) - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
  • Lift the wiper arms gently away from the windshield.
  • Place a clean microfiber towel on the glass under each arm in case it drops.
  • Use masking tape to mark where each blade rests on the glass (optional).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Put on mechanic gloves and safety glasses.
  • Lift the arm up until it stays up on its own.
  • Slide a clean microfiber towel under the arm area on the windshield.

Step 2: Unclip the old blade from the J-hook

  • Rotate the wiper blade so it sits at a right angle to the arm.
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the arm.
  • Press the tab with your thumb, then slide the blade down and off the hook.
  • Keep one hand holding the arm.

Step 3: Clip on the new blade

  • Take the new blade and make sure the correct adapter is installed (most are “J-hook” style for your Corolla).
  • Slide the new blade onto the hook until you hear/feel it click.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Lower the arm carefully

  • Remove the clean microfiber towel from the glass.
  • Lower the arm slowly until the blade rests on the windshield.
  • Do not let the arm drop or snap down.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger-side wiper blade.
  • Make sure each side gets the correct length blade (driver and passenger are usually different lengths).

✅ After Repair

  • Start the car and spray washer fluid, then run the wipers on low speed.
  • Check for streaking, skipping, or chattering.
  • If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge with a damp towel and try again.
