š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Lift one wiper arm at a time so you donāt mix up the blade sizes.
- Place a microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield as a cushion while you work.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely
- Wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Gently lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Slide a microfiber towel under the arm area on the glass. It helps prevent accidental chips.
Step 2: Release the old blade from the J-hook
- Rotate the wiper blade so itās roughly perpendicular (90°) to the wiper arm.
- Find the small release tab/clip where the blade meets the arm.
- Press the tab with your thumb. If itās stuck, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver (donāt pry hard).
- Slide the blade down and out of the J-hook to remove it.
- Keep one hand on the arm so it doesnāt snap back to the glass.
Step 3: Install the new blade
- Confirm you have the correct size for the side youāre working on (driver is usually longer than passenger).
- Slide the new bladeās connector onto the J-hook until it seats fully.
- Pull lightly on the blade to confirm itās locked in place. If it slides off, it isnāt latched.
Step 4: Lower the arm and repeat on the other side
- Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield gently.
- Repeat Steps 1ā3 for the other front wiper blade.
- Remove the microfiber towel when finished.
ā After Repair
- Start the car and test the wipers with washer fluid.
- If you see streaks, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a clean microfiber towel (new blades can skip on dirty glass).
