- Put the wipers into service position using one of the methods below.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Put the wipers in āservice positionā
- Method A (MMI menu): With ignition ON, use the center screen controls to go to Car > Settings & Service > Service & Checks > Wiper service position, then select/confirm.
- Method B (stalk method): Turn ignition OFF, then within about 10 seconds move the wiper stalk to the single wipe position once; the wipers should park upright for service.
- Service position lets arms lift without hitting hood.
Step 2: Lift the first wiper arm carefully
- Use your hands (no tools) to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Use the microfiber towel under the arm area for extra protection.
- Hold the arm firmly so it canāt snap back.
Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade
- At the bladeās connector, locate the small release tab (a locking clip that holds the blade on).
- Press the tab with your thumb and slide the blade off the arm (usually sliding downward, toward the base of the arm).
- If itās tight, keep the tab pressed and wiggle the blade gently while sliding it free.
Step 4: Install the new wiper blade
- Remove any plastic protector from the new bladeās rubber edge.
- Slide the new blade onto the wiper arm connector until you hear/feel a click.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm itās locked in place.
Step 5: Repeat on the other side
- Use your hands to lift the other wiper arm and repeat removal/installation.
- Keep the microfiber towel in place to protect the glass.
Step 6: Return wipers to normal parked position
- If you used the MMI method, exit Wiper service position (toggle it off) using Car > Settings & Service.
- Turn ignition ON and do one quick wiper cycle using the stalk to ensure they park normally.
- Lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield gently by hand.
ā After Repair
- Test the front wipers and washer spray to confirm smooth, quiet wiping with no streaks.
- Check that both blades are fully clipped in and not loose at the connector.
- If you see skipping/chatter, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and re-test.
