šŸ”§ Q5 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing your front wiper blades restores clear vision in rain and helps prevent windshield streaking or scratching. On your Q5, the key is putting the wiper arms into ā€œservice positionā€ so the blades can lift safely.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-30 minutes

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn ignition OFF before lifting wiper arms to avoid sudden movement.
  • āš ļø Place a towel on the windshield in case an arm snaps down.
  • āš ļø Do not run the wipers without blades installed.
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Step stool

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades (correct fitment for Q5) - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Q5 on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • Lay a microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield for protection.
  • Put the wipers into service position using one of the methods below.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in ā€œservice positionā€

  • Method A (MMI menu): With ignition ON, use the center screen controls to go to Car > Settings & Service > Service & Checks > Wiper service position, then select/confirm.
  • Method B (stalk method): Turn ignition OFF, then within about 10 seconds move the wiper stalk to the single wipe position once; the wipers should park upright for service.
  • Service position lets arms lift without hitting hood.

Step 2: Lift the first wiper arm carefully

  • Use your hands (no tools) to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Use the microfiber towel under the arm area for extra protection.
  • Hold the arm firmly so it can’t snap back.

Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade

  • At the blade’s connector, locate the small release tab (a locking clip that holds the blade on).
  • Press the tab with your thumb and slide the blade off the arm (usually sliding downward, toward the base of the arm).
  • If it’s tight, keep the tab pressed and wiggle the blade gently while sliding it free.

Step 4: Install the new wiper blade

  • Remove any plastic protector from the new blade’s rubber edge.
  • Slide the new blade onto the wiper arm connector until you hear/feel a click.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

  • Use your hands to lift the other wiper arm and repeat removal/installation.
  • Keep the microfiber towel in place to protect the glass.

Step 6: Return wipers to normal parked position

  • If you used the MMI method, exit Wiper service position (toggle it off) using Car > Settings & Service.
  • Turn ignition ON and do one quick wiper cycle using the stalk to ensure they park normally.
  • Lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield gently by hand.

āœ… After Repair

  • Test the front wipers and washer spray to confirm smooth, quiet wiping with no streaks.
  • Check that both blades are fully clipped in and not loose at the connector.
  • If you see skipping/chatter, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and re-test.
