🔧 Journey - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Your Journey’s front wiper blades wear out and start streaking, skipping, or squeaking. Replacing them is quick and helps you keep clear visibility in rain and at night.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.4 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the wiper hinge; it can pinch hard.
  • ⚠️ Don’t let the wiper arm snap onto the glass—place a towel on the windshield as protection.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and make sure the wipers are parked (resting at the bottom of the windshield).
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and switch the ignition off.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under the wiper arms (in case an arm springs back).
  • Open the new blades and confirm each one matches its side (26" driver, 16" passenger).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Use a step stool if needed to reach comfortably.
  • Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Keep the microfiber towel under the arm on the glass.

Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • Rotate the blade so it sits more “sideways” to the arm to expose the connector.
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade attaches to the hook.
  • Press the tab with your gloved thumb (use nitrile gloves), then slide the blade down and off the hook.
  • Hold the arm—don’t let it spring back.

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Slide the new blade’s connector onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s latched.

Step 4: Lower the driver-side arm carefully

  • Guide the arm down by hand and set the blade onto the glass.
  • Remove and reposition the microfiber towel as needed.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Lift the passenger-side arm, remove the old blade the same way, and install the new 16" blade until it clicks.
  • Lower the arm gently back onto the windshield.

âś… After Repair

  • Start the vehicle and test the wipers with washer fluid.
  • If you see smearing, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel.
  • Make sure both blades park at the bottom and don’t hit the hood trim.
