🔧 Front Windshield Wipers - Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Silverado is a quick maintenance job. The blades use a hook-style arm, so the swap is simple once you lift the arm and release the old blade.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Keep the wiper arm from snapping back onto the glass. It can crack the windshield.
  • Work with the wipers in the OFF position and key removed.
  • Protect the windshield with a towel if you are worried about the arm slipping.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

📋 Before You Begin

  • Lift each wiper arm away from the windshield carefully.
  • Place a towel on the glass under the arm to prevent damage.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Set a clean microfiber towel on the glass under the arm for protection.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Press the tab with your fingers and slide the old blade down and off the hook-style arm.
  • Keep the arm steady.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Line up the new blade with the hook on the wiper arm.
  • Slide the hook into the blade adapter until it clicks into place.
  • Pull lightly on the blade to make sure it is locked.

Step 4: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Use the same process with the passenger-side wiper arm.
  • Confirm both blades match the correct length before installing.

Step 5: Lower the arms and test

  • Carefully lower both arms back onto the windshield.
  • Turn the wipers on with washer fluid to check for smooth operation.
  • Make sure both blades sweep evenly and do not chatter.

✅ After Repair

  • Test the wipers with washer fluid.
  • Check for streaking, skipping, or noise.
  • If one blade does not sit flat, remove it and reinstall it fully.
