🔧 Tacoma - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing your A4’s front wiper blades is a quick job that improves visibility in rain and reduces windshield streaking. You’ll remove each old blade from the wiper arm and snap the new blade into the same connector.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep the wiper arm from snapping onto the glass (it can crack the windshield).
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before lifting the wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Don’t force plastic tabs—press the release and slide the blade off.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves
  • Painter’s tape 1 in
  • Flathead screwdriver small
  • Microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 21" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Tacoma on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Use a microfiber towel to wipe the windshield where the blades sit.
  • Put a short strip of painter’s tape 1 in on the windshield under each blade area. Helps protect glass if arm slips.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Lift the wiper arm up and away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Lay a microfiber towel on the glass under the arm as extra protection.

Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular (90°) to the wiper arm.
  • Find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Press the tab with your thumb; if it’s tight, gently press it using a flathead screwdriver small.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade down and out of the hook (the “J-hook” is the curved end of the arm).

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Confirm the new blade is 22".
  • Slide the new blade’s connector into the J-hook from the open end.
  • Pull it up until you hear/feel a “click” and it can’t slide back out.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked. If it slides, it’s not latched.

Step 4: Lower the driver-side wiper arm carefully

  • Hold the arm with your hand and lower it onto the windshield slowly.
  • Do not let it drop or snap down.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger side using the 21" blade.
  • Use the flathead screwdriver small only if the release tab is stubborn.

âś… After Repair

  • Remove the painter’s tape 1 in from the windshield.
  • Start your Tacoma and test the wipers with washer fluid.
  • If you see streaking, wipe the windshield and the rubber edge with a microfiber towel.
  • If a blade chatters or skips, re-check that it’s fully clicked into the J-hook.
