🔧 CR-V - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old wiper blade assemblies from the wiper arms and slide new blades into the same hook-style connector. Fresh blades restore clear visibility and reduce streaking and chatter, especially in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Don’t let the wiper arm snap onto the glass—place a towel on the windshield while working.
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge; the spring tension is strong.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Shop towel
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your CR-V on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
  • Lift each wiper arm up away from the windshield.
  • Place a shop towel on the windshield under the wiper arm you’re working on.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the driver-side wiper blade (26")

  • Lift the driver wiper arm up and keep the shop towel under it.
  • At the middle of the blade where it meets the arm, find the small locking tab on the connector.
  • Press the tab with your thumb. If it’s stuck, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver. Don’t pry hard—plastic can crack.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it from the J-hook.
  • Remove the blade from the arm.

Step 2: Install the new driver-side wiper blade (26")

  • Hold the new blade so the connector lines up with the J-hook at the end of the arm.
  • Hook it in and slide it upward until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade with your hand to confirm it’s locked.

Step 3: Remove and install the passenger-side blade (16")

  • Repeat Step 1 to remove the passenger blade, using the shop towel and (if needed) the small flathead screwdriver.
  • Repeat Step 2 to install the new passenger blade until it clicks and passes a gentle tug test.

Step 4: Lower the arms back onto the windshield

  • Remove the shop towel.
  • Carefully lower each wiper arm onto the glass—don’t drop it.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the wipers on LOW for a few passes.
  • Use the washer fluid and confirm there’s no skipping, streaking, or loose blade movement.
  • If a blade chatters, clean the windshield and the rubber edge with a shop towel.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $40-$90 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $20-$50 (parts only)

You Save: $20-$40 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.5 hours.
