🔧 Sierra 1500 - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades is a quick maintenance job that restores clear visibility and prevents the metal wiper arms from scratching your windshield. On your Sierra 1500, the blades clip onto the wiper arms and can be swapped in minutes.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep a firm grip on the wiper arm—if it snaps back it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Put a towel on the glass under the arm while the blade is off.
  • ⚠️ Work with the ignition OFF and wipers OFF.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Use the length printed on your old blades (driver/passenger) - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and make sure the wipers are turned OFF.
  • Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the truck.
  • Lay a microfiber towel on the windshield under the wiper you’re working on.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hands to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place the microfiber towel on the glass directly under the arm.

Step 2: Unclip the old blade from the wiper arm

  • Look where the blade connects to the arm. Most Sierra 1500 setups use a “J-hook” style connection (a hook-shaped end of the arm).
  • Press the small release tab on the blade connector using your thumb.
  • Slide the blade down toward the base of the J-hook, then rotate and unhook it from the arm.
  • If it’s stuck, wiggle while pressing the tab.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Compare the new blade to the old one to confirm the same length and connector style.
  • Hook the new blade’s connector onto the J-hook end of the arm.
  • Pull/slide it into place until you hear/feel a solid “click” indicating it’s locked.
  • Gently tug on the blade (by hand) to confirm it’s secure.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm safely

  • Hold the wiper arm with your hand and slowly lower it back onto the windshield.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.

Step 5: Repeat for the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the washers to wet the glass, then test the wipers on LOW.
  • If you see streaking, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a towel and retest.
  • Make sure both blades park normally and don’t chatter (skip) across the glass.
