🔧 Sierra 1500 - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snapping new blades in place. This restores clear visibility and prevents streaking and windshield scratching from worn rubber.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.4 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep a firm hold on the wiper arm—if it snaps back, it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Put a folded towel on the windshield as a cushion while working.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key before lifting the wiper arms.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Measuring tape (inch scale)
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 22" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Sierra 1500 on level ground and turn the ignition off.
  • Lift each wiper arm up away from the windshield until it “stands” on its hinge.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under the arm as protection.
  • Tip: Match the new blade length to the old.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm the blade size

  • Use a measuring tape (inch scale) to measure the old blades end-to-end.
  • Your Sierra 1500 typically uses 22" on both sides, but install what matches what’s currently on the truck.

Step 2: Remove the old blade (J-hook style arm)

  • Look where the blade connects to the arm. If the arm end looks like a “J”, you have a J-hook.
  • Press the small release tab on the blade adapter (use your thumb, or gently use a small flathead screwdriver if it’s stuck).
  • Slide the blade down toward the base of the J-hook, then rotate it and slide it off the hook.
  • Tip: Don’t force—recheck the release tab.

Step 3: Remove the old blade (pinch-tab/top-lock style arm)

  • If you don’t see a J-hook and instead see a flat arm end with a “pinch” connector, it’s a pinch-tab/top-lock style.
  • Pinch the two side tabs on the connector (use fingers; use a small flathead screwdriver carefully if needed).
  • While pinching, slide the blade straight off the end of the arm.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Unbox the new blade and choose the correct adapter from the kit if it includes multiple (the adapter is the plastic piece that locks onto the wiper arm).
  • For J-hook: slide the new blade onto the hook until it clicks, then tug lightly to confirm it’s locked.
  • For pinch-tab/top-lock: slide the blade onto the arm end until it clicks, then tug lightly to confirm it’s locked.

Step 5: Lower the wiper arms safely

  • Remove the microfiber towel.
  • Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly with your hand guiding it.

âś… After Repair

  • Run the washer fluid and wipers for 10–15 seconds to confirm smooth wiping and no chatter.
  • If there’s streaking, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a fresh towel, then retest.
  • Make sure both blades are fully clipped in (light tug test).
