🔧 RDX - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility and reduces streaking and chatter. On your RDX, you’ll lift each wiper arm, remove the old blade from the J-hook, then snap the new blade on.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and remove the key fob from the vehicle.
- ⚠️ Do not let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ Lift wiper arms gently; don’t force them past their normal hinge travel.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

- Place a clean microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield as a safety cushion.
- Take a photo of blade orientation first.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Use your hands (no tools) to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its hinge.
- Keep one hand on the arm while you work so it doesn’t spring back.
Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook
- Hold the blade and rotate it so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm.
- Press the small release tab on the blade connector with your thumb.
- If the tab is stiff, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver (a flat-tipped tool used to press/push tabs).
- Slide the blade down and out of the J-shaped hook.
Step 3: Install the new blade
- Confirm the new blade adapter matches the old one (most are J-hook style).
- Slide the new blade’s connector into the J-hook opening.
- Pull it upward until you hear/feel a solid click.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully
- Use your hand to guide the arm back down onto the windshield.
- Do not drop it; keep control all the way down.
Step 5: Repeat on the passenger-side
- Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger-side blade.
- Replace both blades together for even wiping.
Step 6: Quick windshield and blade check
- Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe the windshield where the blades park.
- Make sure both blades sit flat against the glass.
✅ After Repair
- Turn ignition ON and test wipers on Mist (one swipe) first.
- Test with washer spray to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
- If you see streaking, clean the windshield again and re-check that each blade fully clicked into the hook.
