🔧 Wrangler - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing your A4—

Replacing your Wrangler’s front wiper blades is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain and helps prevent scratching the windshield from worn rubber.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🛑 Turn the ignition OFF before lifting the wiper arms.
  • 🛑 Don’t let the bare wiper arm snap onto the glass (it can crack the windshield).
  • 🛑 Work on a dry windshield so you can confirm a clean wipe afterward.
  • 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Shop towel
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 15", Passenger: 15" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Wrangler on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Fold a shop towel on the windshield under each wiper arm as a cushion.
  • Identify the connector: your Wrangler typically uses a J-hook (a hook-shaped end of the wiper arm that the blade clips onto).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Lift one wiper arm up and away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Keep the shop towel under the arm as protection.

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade from the J-hook

  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the arm (it forms a “T”).
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the hook.
  • If the tab is stiff, gently press it using a small flathead screwdriver (light pressure only).
  • Slide the blade down toward the bottom of the hook, then unhook it and remove it.
  • Hold the arm so it can’t snap back.

Step 3: Install the new wiper blade

  • Take a new 15" wiper blade and line up its center connector with the J-hook.
  • Hook it in, then slide it upward until it clicks/locks into place.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the arm and repeat on the other side

  • Carefully lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
  • Repeat Steps 1–3 for the other front wiper blade.

âś… After Repair

  • Remove the shop towel from the windshield.
  • Start your Wrangler and test the wipers with washer fluid.
  • If you see streaking, clean the glass with a towel and washer fluid, then re-test.
  • If a blade “chatters” or doesn’t wipe evenly, re-check that it’s clicked fully into the J-hook.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $40-$90 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $20-$50 (parts only)
