🔧 Patriot - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Patriot is a quick maintenance job that improves visibility and reduces streaking and chatter. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and clip the new ones onto the same hook-style mount.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the wiper arm hinge; it can snap down hard.
  • ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield so the bare metal arm can’t crack the glass if it drops.
  • ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and make sure wipers are not in motion before lifting the arms.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 20" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🧰 Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • 🧰 Lift each wiper arm away from the glass until it stays up.
  • 🧰 Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under the arm you’re working on.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the old driver-side blade

  • Lift the driver wiper arm up and support it with your hand.
  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the arm (makes the latch easier to reach).
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the arm (this is the “J-hook” connector).
  • If the tab is stiff, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently press the tab. Don’t pry on the glass.
  • While pressing the tab, slide the blade down toward the base of the J-hook, then unhook it and pull it off.

Step 2: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Hold the new blade so the connector opening lines up with the curved “J” end of the arm.
  • Hook the arm into the new blade’s connector, then pull the blade upward until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade with your hand to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 3: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Use the same process on the passenger wiper arm.
  • Keep the clean microfiber towel under the arm while working.

Step 4: Lower the arms carefully

  • Remove the towel.
  • Lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly by hand. Never let it snap down.

✅ After Repair

  • 🧪 Spray washer fluid and run the wipers for 10–15 seconds.
  • 🧪 Check for streaking, skipping, or chatter and confirm both blades park normally.
  • 🧪 If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge with a damp towel and re-test.
