šŸ”§ E-150 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap on new blades. Good wiper blades restore clear visibility and prevent windshield scratching from worn rubber.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the key off and keep hands clear of the wiper linkage.
  • āš ļø Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • āš ļø If the windshield is hot, let it cool before working.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Small flathead screwdriver (3mm tip)
  • Shop towel

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your E-150 on level ground and turn the ignition off.
  • Lift each wiper arm up away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Lay a shop towel on the lower windshield area as a cushion, just in case the arm drops.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the old driver-side wiper blade

  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm up.
  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s perpendicular to the wiper arm.
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade connects to the arm (the ā€œhookā€ style is most common on the E-150).
  • Press the tab with your thumb; if it’s stuck, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver (3mm tip). Don’t pry hard—just depress the tab.
  • Slide the blade down and out of the hook to remove it.

Step 2: Install the new driver-side wiper blade

  • With the arm still lifted, align the new blade’s adapter with the hook on the wiper arm.
  • Slide the hook into the adapter until you hear/feel a click.
  • Lightly tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked.

Step 3: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Use the same process to remove and install the passenger-side blade.
  • Use a shop towel to wipe the windshield edge where the blades park.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arms carefully

  • Lower each arm back onto the windshield slowly by hand.
  • Remove the shop towel from the windshield.

āœ… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition on and run the wipers on low speed to verify smooth wiping and no skipping.
  • Test the washer spray and make sure the blades don’t chatter.
  • If you see streaks, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a shop towel, then retest.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $30-$80 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $15-$50 (parts only)

You Save: $15-$30 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.5 hours.
