🔧 Escalade - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and prevents the wiper arms from scratching the windshield. This is a quick job: you’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and click the new ones into place.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the cabin so the wipers can’t move unexpectedly.
- ⚠️ Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield. Rest it gently or place a towel under it.
- ⚠️ Lift the wiper arms carefully; they are spring-loaded.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

- Windshield washer fluid - Qty: 1
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Wipe the windshield where the blades sit using a clean shop towel.
- Lay a clean shop towel on the windshield under each wiper arm as protection.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arms
- Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Repeat for the passenger-side wiper arm.
- Keep a towel under each arm.
Step 2: Identify the blade connector type
- Look where the wiper blade meets the wiper arm.
- You’ll typically see either a J-hook (arm end looks like a “J”) or a pinch-tab/top-lock connector (a tab you squeeze to release).
- A “connector” is the plastic joint that locks the blade to the arm.
Step 3A: Remove the old blade (J-hook style)
- Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the arm.
- Press the small release tab on the blade connector with your fingers.
- Slide the blade down toward the base of the J-hook, then unhook it and remove it.
Step 3B: Remove the old blade (pinch-tab/top-lock style)
- Squeeze the release tabs on the connector with your fingers.
- While squeezing, slide the blade straight off the end of the arm.
Step 4: Install the new blade
- Compare the new blade to the old one to confirm the same general length and connector style.
- Attach the new blade to the arm:
- J-hook: hook it in, then pull it upward until it clicks and locks.
- Pinch-tab/top-lock: slide it on until it clicks and the tabs lock.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 5: Lower the arms carefully
- Remove the clean shop towel from under the arm.
- Lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly and gently.
Step 6: Quick function test
- Turn the ignition ON.
- Spray washer fluid and run the wipers for 5–10 seconds.
- If you see streaking, clean the windshield again with a clean shop towel and try once more.
✅ After Repair
- Confirm both blades wipe smoothly and don’t chatter or skip.
- Top off windshield washer fluid if it’s low.
- If one blade isn’t wiping evenly, re-check that it fully clicked into the arm.
