🔧 Corolla - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old front wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap the new blades onto the same hooks. Worn blades cause streaks, chatter, and poor visibility—fresh blades are a quick safety upgrade.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ The wiper arm is spring-loaded—don’t let it snap back onto the glass.
  • ⚠️ Place a towel on the windshield under the arm to protect the glass if the arm slips.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Work gloves
  • Clean shop towel
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 24", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Lift one wiper arm at a time.
  • Place a clean shop towel on the windshield under the wiper arm.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift and protect the wiper arm

  • Put on work gloves and safety glasses.
  • Lay a clean shop towel on the windshield under the wiper blade.
  • Lift the wiper arm up until it stays in the raised position.

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade

  • Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm (this gives you room to work).
  • Find the small release tab where the blade attaches to the arm’s hook (J-hook).
  • Press the tab with your thumb; if it’s stuck, gently help the tab with a small flat-blade screwdriver (a flat screwdriver is a straight, flat-tipped tool used to pry or press small tabs).
  • Slide the blade down and off the hook.
  • Hold the arm so it can’t snap down.

Step 3: Install the new wiper blade

  • Confirm you’re installing the correct length: Driver 24", Passenger 16".
  • Hook the new blade’s adapter onto the wiper arm hook.
  • Slide it into place until you hear/feel a solid “click.”
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked on.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Remove the clean shop towel.
  • Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly and gently.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the washers to wet the glass.
  • Test wipers on low and high speed and check for streaking or skipping.
  • If a blade streaks, clean the windshield and the blade edge using a clean shop towel.
  • If the blade chatters, recheck that it fully clicked into the hook.
