🔧 Tahoe - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain and helps prevent windshield scratching from worn rubber. On your Tahoe, the front blades attach to the wiper arms with a common “J-hook” style connection.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Turn the ignition off and keep hands clear of the wiper linkage.
- 🛑 Don’t let the bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
- 🛑 Use painter’s tape or a towel on the glass as protection while blades are off.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the ignition off.
- Use painter’s tape or a shop towel to protect the windshield under each wiper arm.
- If you need reach, place a step stool next to the front fender.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift and protect the wiper arm
- Put on safety glasses and mechanic gloves.
- Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Place a shop towel under the blade area, and add a strip of painter’s tape on the glass for extra protection.
Step 2: Release the old blade from the J-hook
- At the point where the blade meets the arm, look for the small locking tab.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently press the locking tab. Don’t pry hard—just press.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade down toward the base of the arm to unhook it, then rotate and remove it.
Step 3: Install the new blade
- Keep the wiper arm supported with your hand (don’t let it snap down).
- Align the new blade’s connector with the arm’s J-hook, then slide it in until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked on. Use the small flathead screwdriver only if you need to guide the tab—don’t force it.
Step 4: Lower the arm carefully
- Remove the shop towel and painter’s tape.
- Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly and gently.
Step 5: Repeat on the other side
- Use the step stool if needed and repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front blade.
âś… After Repair
- Start the Tahoe and test the wipers on low speed, then high.
- Spray washer fluid and confirm both blades wipe cleanly without skipping.
- If a blade chatters, clean the windshield and blade rubber with a shop towel.
